Dang! Doesn't that look amazing. (River-green.com photo.)

‘Ere’s a quick look at the gamebird industry across the pond, from an article in England’s Independent newspaper. Btw, the article is about the “gun lobby” influencing the government to kill a gamebird welfare law – that’s “welfare” as in animal rights. Remember that Britain is the birthplace of animal rights.

> British farms rear 40 million gamebirds annually. Most are pheasants (30 to 35 million), with 5-10 million partridges.

> Grouse are not reared on farms: They live wild all year round on moors in Scotland, northern England and Wales. [That’s right, bubba!]

> 70,000 jobs are said to depend on the game shooting industry and it is claimed to be worth £1.6bn to the UK economy.

> Roughly 7,000 shoots registered to release pheasants, 3,000 for partridge.

> The pheasant and partridge shooting season lasts from Oct. 1 to Feb. 1 in England, Scotland and Wales.

> The grouse season begins on Aug. 12 and runs to Dec. 10.

In other words, while we doff our caps to our Serious mates there, they wish they had it as good as we do here!
