Can Bigfooters Teach Us Anything?

Have you been watching that Finding Bigfoot show on the Discovery Channel? From the hype seems a lot of folks are scoping it out.

Brendan and his sons watch it with some interest, but Jay and his son watch it with a lot more interest…having to do with an event that happened to Jay and two of his siblings at a spot in the New Jersey woods about 20 years ago. Too much for here, but buy him a beer and he may tell you about it….

Btw, that led to this:

Anyhow, we’re watching the show the other day, and it dawns on us that the Bigfooters – as they call themselves – are using maps and are talking about “patterns” and “flushing” these animals out. We’re like: This sounds a lot like bird-hunting!

So we’re watching to see what, if any, tools they use we can appropriate. The one piece of technology they have that we think might be cool to incorporate in the bird arsenal one day is thermal imaging. (More here for you closet Squatch-chasers.)

Other than some sort of heads-up display that would show up on hunting glasses or whatever, we’re not exactly sure how this would be included on/in bird gear, and it may be impractical. But hey: We’re talking about bigfoot here….

Still would be cool to be able to see those birds, where they really are, where they’re going, maybe where they’ve been – kind of like the dog’s world.

If there’s a point here (lol) it’s that you never know where something will pop up that might make sense to try in the upland woods and fields. That’s one reason we scour Outside magazine – all the cutting-edge clothing and technology is “over there.”

Keep an open mind, our birding sisters and brothers!
